Presidential Elections 2024<\/h3>\n

The first round of the seventh presidential elections will be held on April 24, while the\nsecond round will take place on May 8, together with the regular eleventh\nparliamentary elections.<\/p>\n

In accordance with the Constitution and applicable legal provisions, the President of\nthe Republic is elected in general and direct elections, by secret ballot, for a term of\nfive years. The same person may be elected as President of the Republic no more\nthan twice. The President of the Republic must be a citizen of the Republic of\nMacedonia. A person may be elected President of the Republic if they have reached\nat least 40 years of age on the day of the elections. A person who has not resided in\nthe Republic of Macedonia for at least ten of the last fifteen years prior to the election\nday cannot be elected President.<\/p>\n

A presidential candidate may be nominated by at least 10,000 voters or by at least\n30 Members of Parliament. The candidate who receives a majority of votes from the\ntotal number of registered voters is elected President of the Republic. If no candidate\nreceives the required majority in the first round, a second round is held between the\ntwo candidates who received the most votes in the first round. The second round of\nvoting is held within 14 days after the first round. A candidate is elected President if\nthey receive a majority of the votes of those who voted, provided that more than half\nof the registered voters participated. If neither candidate receives the required\nmajority in the second round, the entire election process is repeated.<\/p>\n

The election of the President of the Republic takes place within the last 60 days of\nthe term of the outgoing President. In the event of termination of the President\u2019s\nmandate for any reason, the election of a new President must take place within 40\ndays from the day the mandate ended. Before taking office, the President of the\nRepublic gives a solemn statement before the Assembly, committing to respect the\nConstitution and the laws.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

        Electoral System<\/h3>\n

        Out of the 123 parliamentary seats in the Assembly of the Republic, 120 are\nelected from six electoral districts in Macedonia, each allocating 20 seats\nthrough a proportional representation system based on closed party lists, with\nseats distributed according to the D'Hondt method. The remaining three seats\nare reserved for Macedonians residing abroad; however, these seats are filled\nonly if the number of votes received by a candidate surpasses that of the\ncandidate with the fewest votes elected within Macedonia in the previous\nelections.<\/p>\n

        Should a diaspora list exceed this threshold, it is entitled to one seat; to\nsecure two parliamentary seats, the list must obtain twice the threshold\nnumber of votes, and to claim three seats, the list must achieve three times\nthe threshold. These diaspora seats were not allocated in the 2020 elections\ndue to insufficient voter turnout.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\n\t\t\t <\/div>\n <\/div><\/div>\n\n\n
